Another academic year of success and achievement unfolded on 1st June 2017 with a reopening ceremony and also by welcoming the new manager Rev. Fr. Augustine Ponganamthadam who addressed the students and parents on the same day. Result 2017: A proud and outstanding result with 100% was achieved from LKG to XII std. In the XII std, Jeffin Shaji won the certificate of Merit from CBSE in Accountancy for being the 0.1% outstanding result with all A1 in the all India level. All others stood with distinction and first class. In the X std, out of 33 students, 16 secured all A1 result and all others secured distinctions. Special congratulations to Jeffin Shaji for your outstanding result in all India level and also congratulations to all winners. Well done students. Keep it up in your further studies and results. Strength of the school has increased, admissions were added to all sections from play class to XI std. Teacher’s Meetings, Trainings and Orientation Programmes were continued throughout the year in various subjects including K.G. to higher secondary, sponsored by CBSE, Kottayam Sahodaya and other authorised agencies, which improved the efficiency and effectiveness of teachers. First staff meeting was conducted on May 24th 2017 and in charge teachers were selected. Praveen K Mathew staff secretary Sr. Grace – K.G. in charge, Mrs. Rosamma Joseph- Primary section in charge, Mrs. Asha Thomas UP Section, Mr. Johnson Philipose – high school and Mr. Shijo C. Mathews for the Jr. College section. All in charge are rendering dedicated service. School Parliament: School election was donedemocratically through secret ballot system. Nimmy Thomas and Joseph Manoj of Class X were elected as head girl and head boy. Both of them are rendering dedicated services to protect and defend the constitution of Santa Maria Public School. Mrs. Jaya Jose took the charge of the election officer. Scholastic Activities: Excellent class room teaching for academic excellence is given utmost priority. Chapter wise test papers, periodic assessments, term examinations, model examinations for X, XI, XII were conducted on time with ample revisions. Practical examination of XII std and remedial coaching for X, XII Board examinations are also going on. Extra-Curricular Activities are conducted by special instructors on all Wednesdays to enhance the talent of students in Dance, music, organ, painting, kalari, karate yoga and magic. Epista-2018 and Inter-school Quiz Competitions The school conducted a six series quiz competition named Epista to all students under the able leadership of Nisha miss and Maya miss and the Grand Finale was held on 8th January. The winners of Epista 2018 are Jeswin Jaison, Anna Santhosh and Anex Cyriac – I prize in cat. I, II, III and Catherin Anna Binu, Sonal Varghese and Aleena Anna Biju – II prize in I, II, III categories. Our students participated in various inter school Quiz competitions, Business Quiz and Best Manager Competitions. Christin Issac, Dain J Manthara, Liya Shaji, Finobin Thomas and Aleena Anna Biju won cash prizes. Edwin Mathew XI won the I position in the Best Manager competition held in St. Aloysius College Athirampuzha and won the cash prize. Reading competition: Our students are friends of books. Reading competition and quiz were held in all the classes in Malayalam and prizes were distributed to classwise winners. Special congratulations to Aleena Anna Biju and Anex Cyriac for their wonderful performance in the Taluk and District level Malayalam Reading Competitions. The winners who read maximum number of books this year are Aleena Anna Biju, Sona Maria Shoby and Liya Shaji. Along with the mother tongue, English language, spoken English and the national language Hindi are also strictly promoted. School Gives regular coaching in sports which was highly recognised and appreciated this years also. Achievements in sports: Santa Marian Volley ball team (Girls) won the II position in the state level volley ball tournament held in Varkala and Nimmy Thomas (X) won the trophy for the best promising player. In the Sahodaya Volley Ball Tournament held in Warwin school Vaikom, both the girls team and the boys team won the Ist runner up. In the Sahodaya Athletics, our students won 15 medals. 18 students of our school participated in the state Athletics. 24 students participated in the Kerala Central School Sports Meet on 23rd of this month and won 13 medals. Athletes -Jibina Jimmy, Rohan P Thomas, Donal Binu and Abi Mathew are qualified to the state level. ‘Santa Marian Volleyball Tournament 2017’ was held in two grounds- school ground and new auditorium. Former Manager Rev. Fr. Joseph Mulavana was the ground opener. 17 teams from various parts of Kerala participated on 16.8.17. FIFA under 17 World Cup “One Million Goal” also was inaugurated in the school ground by the Kooroppada Panchayat President Sri. Kunju Puthusserry on 27th September. School Sports Day on 13th October gave ample opportunities for all students to participate in various sports items and get prizes. I hereby acknowledge and applaud the dedication of our school coach Sri. Kurian Sir. School Youth Festival and Arts day also gave enough opportunities to all students from K.G.-XII to participate and exhibit their talents in various art items. Founder Manager Rev. Fr. Joseph Puthupparambil was the Chief guest. The best in school youth festival were sent to Sahodaya. Sargasangamam: Edwin Mathew (XI) won I prize in Hindi Essay Writing. Irene Shaiju of class (III) won II prize in light music. Anand Joby (VII) won III prize in Cartoon. Edwin Mathew was sent to the state Kalothsav in Trissur and won 7th position in Hindi Essay Writing. Scholarship Examinations: This year also students participated in many competitive examinations conducted by Kottayam Sahodaya, Kerala Ganitha Sastra Parishad, PCM, GAT E, KCSL Talent Hunt, NTSE etc. Congratulations to all scholarship winners. Celebrations: Environment Day, Onam, Independence Day, Children’s day, Keralapiravi, Christmas etc., in relation to cultural heritage and transmission were celebrated with prior importance. Other important days were highlighted during the class wise assemblies every week. Picnic and study tours were arranged sections wise to get a pleasurable diversion. IX-XI students had a study tour to Mysore, IV-VIII students went to enjoy in wonderla, KG-III std had a picnic to Needoor Park and X std student enjoyed a day in Thenmala. Scouting for Boys: Emil John Sabu, Alphy Paul, Aabel Saju and Anand Joby won Rajapuraskar awards this year. Our Scout Master Mr. Siju M.J is the IT counselor in the Kottayam District. Colleqium: School conducted colleqium in different subjects- English, Science, Maths and Social Science by different sections which deepened the knowledge of students in different topics and subjects. Counselling in school: Individual and group counseling were given throughout the academic year to all students to lead a happy and stress-free life by taking right course of life. Services of our school counsellor’s Rev. Fr. Antony Kachamkottu, Sr. Jenny A.O and Mrs. Rajamma George Meledath are specially valuable. Retreat: A wonderful retreat was conducted in section wise order from V – XII students to refresh their minds and to inculcate moral and human values. I hereby applauded the services of the retreat team under Rev. Fr. Antony Kachamkode. Medical Camps: was conducted in the school in relation to M.R. Vaccination and T.T. vaccination by the Health Centre Moongakuzhy. National Deworming Day was also observed in the school on 10th August with follow up. Jalanidhi: Our school has been selected for the Jalanidhi programme from the Panchayat level which was inaugurated by Sri. Kunju Puthuserry, panchayat president, Kooroppada on 16th November. Santa Maria Cultural Centre, a modern auditorium was inaugurated by H.G. Mar Joseph Perumthottam on 18th September 2017 which became a great achievement this year.
Student Contributions to community: In connection with the smart-nest programme, our students collected rice, food items and Rs. 21,000/- during Onam and distributed to families in Edakkattukunnel and Lakkattoor colony as Onam gift. 2018 Calendar was printed and distributed to all students and the contribution from students were given as charity. Thanks to parents for your kind cooperation in preparing the minds of students with human values of sympathy and caring & sharing with our fellow beings. Club Activities: Various clubs activities performing in the school are Language club, Event management club, Awareness creative club, Charity cum counselling, Nature, Science, Health & Quiz clubs. PTA Executive Meetings were conducted on every second Fridays to analyse and discuss the curricular and co-curricular activities. PTA open houses were also conducted to analyse the academic & co-curricularUpcoming Events in this academic year are Periodic Test 4, Medical camp for eye testing on 7th February, magazine publishing, Farewell to XII std students and
final exams in March. It is the right time to honour the altruistic services of Sri. V. M. Mathew Vadana the secretary, Prof. M.K. Joseph Meledath, Sri T.O. Joseph Thuppalanjiyil and Sri. James Jacob Adackkamundackal who grace this institute since 2002. I admire and appreciate the whole hearted support and dedication of our Manager Rev. Fr. Augustine Ponganamthadathil in the fulfillment of all the visions of Santa Maria lighted by the founder Manager Rev. Fr. Joseph Puthupparambil and Rev. Fr. Joseph Mulavana. I hereby acknowledge and applaud the dedication of all members of the Managing Committee, P.T.A. president Mr. M.P. Varghese Matathinkal, PTA Executives, parents, Vice Principals Mr. Shijo C. Mathews and Mr. Josekutty Thomas, all teaching and non-teaching staff, wellwishers and the hard work, discipline and cooperation of students for all the achievements this year. The expertise of experienced and dedicated faculty and the hard work of students merged with the support of management, parents and the community creates the success story of Santa Maria Public School. Let me conclude the report with the prayer that let God Almighty and Our heavenly Patron Mother Mary help us in all our endeavours to soar up to higher realms of excellence.
