Welcoming a New Academic Year: Pravesanolsavam 2023-2024
Santa Maria Public School inaugurated the 2023-2024 academic year with a vibrant “Pravesanolsavam” ceremony on June 1, 2023. After a revitalizing summer break, students returned with renewed enthusiasm, and new students, including those in L.K.G., were warmly welcomed and presented with gifts to mark their first day. The ceremony featured inspiring addresses from Principal Fr. Jose Thomas Parasseril, PTA President Mrs. Bindu Sathees, SMPS Educational Society Secretary Mr. Alex Joseph, Vice Principal Mr. Johnson Philipos, Head of the Malayalam Department Mr. T.O. Joseph, Committee Member Mr. T.M. Antony, and several esteemed teachers. They extended their heartfelt wishes for a prosperous and fulfilling academic year ahead.
World Environment Day 2023: A Commitment to Sustainability at Santa Maria Public School
World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5th, serves to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our planet and its resources, underscoring the need for global solidarity to tackle climate change and other environmental challenges. This year, Santa Maria
Public School marked the occasion with a range of activities, including an open assembly, poster-making competitions, and tree planting. Principal Fr. On June 14, 2023, Santa Maria School held its annual student election, creating a lively and anticipatory atmosphere as candidates competed for various positions. Students eagerly exercised their democratic right, casting their votes to elect their representatives for the upcoming academic year. Investiture Ceremony 2023: Inducting New Leaders at Santa Maria School
Santa Maria School hosted its annual Investiture Ceremony on June 19, 2023, to formally induct the newly elected student leaders for the academic year 2023-2024. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Jose Parassery, along with Mr. Joseph Paul, extended heartfelt congratulations to the new leaders, encouraging them to uphold the school’s values and traditions. The ceremony featured the presentation of badges and sashes by the principal and other dignitaries. During the event, the new leaders took an oath to serve the school and their peers with dedication and commitment, pledging to embody the core values of integrity, discipline, and compassion. The ceremony concluded with the Head Boy and Head Girl expressing gratitude to the principal, staff, and parents for their unwavering support and guidance, setting a positive tone for their leadership journey.
Merit Day 2023: Celebrating Academic Excellence at Santa Maria School
On June 19th, 2023, Santa Maria School held its annual Merit Day ceremony, a vibrant celebration of academic achievement and dedication. The event honoured the exceptional efforts of students in grades X and XII throughout the academic year. Beyond mere recognition, Merit Day symbolized the school’s steadfast commitment to cultivating an environment that promotes excellence in learning. Parents, teachers, and students gathered in a spirit of shared pride, celebrating the collective efforts that contribute to Santa Maria’s continued academic success.
Celebrating Excellence: Kottayam Sahodaya Honours Top Board Exam Achievers
Kottayam Sahodaya celebrated the remarkable academic achievements of students who attained perfect scores in the Board Exams during a dazzling ceremony at Mary Mount Public School, Kattachira. Among the honoured students, five exceptional individuals from our school stood out with their impressive 100% marks, showcasing their outstanding dedication and hard work.
Santa Marian Language Club’s Reading Week: Celebrating Literacy and Creativity
The Santa Marian Language Club hosted a week-long reading celebration from June 19 to 23, 2023, filled with competitions that emphasized the importance of reading and literary creativity. The club organized a variety of activities, including reading challenges, book reviews, newspaper headline compilations, designing the front page of a school newspaper, and writing book reviews.
A total of fifty-one students earned first and second prizes in Malayalam, English, and Hindi reading competitions. Additionally, six students were recognized for their outstanding work in the Newspaper Headlines and Compilation categories. The prize distribution took place during Arts Day, where winning students were celebrated. Houses also earned points based on the results of the “Design the Front Page of a School Newspaper” competition, further fostering a spirit of creativity and healthy competition.
International Anti-Drug Day 2023: A United Stand Against Drug Abuse
On Monday, June 26, 2023, our school observed International Anti-Drug Day with a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug use. During an open assembly, students were educated on the harmful effects of drugs and collectively took a pledge to remain drug-free. The school’s commitment to this cause was further reinforced
through public anti-drug rallies, where students displayed posters and chanted slogans, spreading the message of a drug-free life.
Parent-Teacher Meetings: Strengthening School-Home Partnerships
Throughout June, our school held parent-teacher meetings for all classes, offering parents the opportunity to meet with teachers and discuss any concerns or questions they had. These meetings also served as the platform for selecting Executive Members for the Parent-Teacher Association, further strengthening the collaboration between parents and the school in
fostering a supportive educational environment.

Fiesta 23: A Celebration of Talent at Santa Maria Arts Fest
Fiesta 23, the Santa Maria Arts Fest, was held on July 21, 2023, showcasing the diverse talents of students across five distinct stages. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students of all grades, offering them a valuable learning experience and the chance to discover and develop their unique talents. To encourage a competitive spirit, students were organized into four Houses. The daylong event was inaugurated by the esteemed PTA President, Mrs. Nishamol M. G., setting the tone for a vibrant and inspiring celebration of the arts.
Patroness’ Day and Independence Day: A Unified Celebration of Faith and Freedom
On August 14, 2023, the school grounds were the setting for a joint celebration of Patroness’ Day and Independence Day. The event began with a solemn recitation of the rosary, followed by a procession of students, organized by their respective houses, to the grotto of Mother Mary. The celebration featured a variety of engaging programs, including addresses by PTA President Mrs. Nishamol and Principal Father Jose Thomas Parasseril, who spoke to the students about the significance of both occasions. The event highlighted the importance of honoring Independence Day while also recognizing the blessings of Patroness Mother Mary, blending national pride with spiritual reflection.
Onam 2023: A Joyous Celebration of Tradition at Santa Maria School
SMPS celebrated Onam on August 23 with a vibrant array of festivities. The event was filled with exciting activities, including a spirited tug of war, stunning floral decorations, lively Pulikali performances, and the traditional Onappattu songs. The highlight of the celebration was the Ona Sadhya, a festive feast that brought the school community together to share a delightful meal. The joyful spirit of Onam was felt throughout the school, making it a memorable and heartwarming celebration for everyone involved
Teachers’ Day 2023: A Heartfelt Celebration of Educators at SMPS

The 11th Santa Marian Volleyball Tournament, held on September 23, 2023, was a resounding success. The event was inaugurated by Sri Suvarnakumar D, the Inspector of Police, Pampady. Eight teams participated enthusiastically, competing for the boys’ and girls’ trophies, creating a spirited and competitive atmosphere throughout the tournament.
Study Tours: A Blend of Fun, Adventure, and Learning
Santa Maria School’s recent study tours were a resounding success, offering students a perfect mix of fun, adventure, and learning! Kindergarten through Class 2 students giggled their way through Hangout Play World in Ettumanoor, enjoying a day filled with playful activities. Students from Classes 3 to 8 had an exhilarating time exploring the thrilling rides and
attractions at Fantasy Park in Malampuzha. High schoolers in Classes 9 and 11 embarked on a historical and cultural adventure through Mysore and Coorg, where they immersed themselves in ancient temples and breathtaking landscapes. Meanwhile, students in Classes 10 and 12 were captivated by the serene beauty of Kuttalam, where they enjoyed the refreshing waterfalls and lush greenery. The study tours provided unforgettable experiences, enriching students’ understanding of the world around them.
Medex-23: Bridging Knowledge and Practice for Santa Maria Students
Medex-23 provided an enriching experience for Santa Maria students from grades 5-12 at the Medical College Ground in Kottayam. This event offered a valuable opportunity for students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real world applications. Parenting Insights: A Session with Renowned Trainer Mr. Manoj Govind
On October 28, 2023, renowned trainer Mr. Manoj Govind conducted an insightful session on Parenting for parents, facilitated by Macmillan Education. The session offered valuable guidance and strategies for effective parenting, helping parents better support their children’s development and education.
Exploring Career Paths: A Commerce Sector Seminar for Students
On October 6, 2023, students in Classes 9-12 attended a career exploration seminar led by Mr. Ruben Martin, focusing on diverse opportunities within the commerce sector. Held at the General Hall, the event was organized by Reporter TV in partnership with the Indian Institute of Commerce and powered by ICAI. This seminar provided valuable insights into various career paths, helping students gain a clearer understanding of their future possibilities in the field of commerce.
Santa Marians Shine at Children’s Day Parade and Arts Fest
On Children’s Day, Santa Marians turned the campus into a lively celebration with a spirited parade and a vibrant Arts Fest. Clad in their House colours, students marched with enthusiasm, waving colourful signs and chanting catchy slogans that echoed the spirit of the day. The event was inaugurated by the esteemed PTA President, Mrs. Nishamol M.G., setting the tone for a day filled with remarkable performances and artistic flair. Diamond House emerged victorious, dazzling everyone with their talent and teamwork, while the Kindergarteners had their own magical Arts Fest, complete with fun activities and creative competitions. Santa Maria School proudly celebrates its academic achievers for their unwavering commitment to excellence. In Class 10, the school achieved a remarkable 100% success rate, with Master Jeswin Jaison making history by scoring a perfect 100 in Social Science. Equally impressive, Abhia Mary Mathew, Albin P Shaji, Aleesha Sony, and Elba Sara Saju each secured perfect scores in Malayalam. In Class 12, the tradition of excellence continued. Josna Jose distinguished herself in Business
Studies, Accountancy, and Economics, earning the top position in the commerce stream. Master Preyas Biju led the PCMC stream with outstanding performances in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science. Alphy P Shaji topped the PCMB stream, excelling in English, Chemistry, and Physics. Anton Salu shone in Mathematics, Biology, and Physics, while Jiss Jimmy stood out with his exceptional performance in Biology. These achievements reflect the dedication and hard

Santa Maria School Athletes Triumph in Volleyball and Athletics Competitions
Santa Maria School proudly celebrates the exceptional achievements of its talented athletes who secured victories in both the Santa Maria and Sahodaya volleyball tournaments. Aleena Joseph demonstrated remarkable prowess by clinching 1st place in shot put and discus throw at the Palai District Athletic Meet. Her winning streak continued with 1st place in discus throw at the CBSE 11th Cluster Athletic Meet in Kochi, as well as top honours in discus throw, shot put, and javelin throw at the Keralotsavam Panchayat, Block, and District Athletic Meets. Jayalaxmi Jayakumar also showcased her athletic talent by winning 1st place in the 100-meter race, 200- meter race, and long jump at both the Keralotsavam Panchayat and Block level Athletic Meets. These outstanding performances reflect the dedication and hard work of Santa Maria’s athletes,
bringing pride to the school and inspiring their peers.

Bright Minds Shine at Santa Maria School’s Sparkle Quiz Grand Finale
Santa Maria School successfully hosted a 6-month-long Sparkle Quiz, engaging students across three competitive categories. The grand finale, held on December 13, 2023, saw the brightest minds vying for the top spots. In Category 1, Evan Bobin Markose emerged as the champion, while Serene Maria Joseph claimed first place in Category 2. In Category 3, Abiah Mary Mathew took the top honours. The quiz not only tested the knowledge and quick thinking of the
participants but also celebrated the intellectual spirit of Santa Maria’s students.
